Camp Update- Weeks 3 & 4

Yes, I know. Here it is only week 3 of the season and I’ve already fallen behind in the blog updates… Plenty of good info to share though as it has been a good couple of weeks here in camp, despite a pretty windy week 4. Despite some great walleye and pike fishing in WeekContinue Reading

2017 Season Underway!

What a beautiful morning for the walleye opener here in NW Ontario. Sunshine and very moderate temps on Saturday gave way to a few more clouds and a little wind later in the day, but for opening day it was fantastic weather overall. The fish were pretty cooperative as well, with good catches streaming intoContinue Reading

Wabaskang Lake/Bear Claw Camp 2016 Season update

My apologies for the lack of blogging, but I am finding it increasingly difficult to find the time to write lengthy blog updates and hope that shorter entries to our Facebook page are helping to fill your void for info! Arriving in camp 2016!

Hello to all! It’s time to start blogging again as the 2016 opener is now under 10 days away. I left Indiana on Monday morning May 9th and made it into camp about 4 pm on Tuesday May 10th. Driving through NW Ontario, you could see that while lake levels looked pretty decent, the landscapeContinue Reading

August remains HOT!

Fortunately I’m not referring to the weather, although we did have another brief spell of temps in the upper 80’s. A cool down ensued thereafter, and culminated in a rainstorm to beat all rainstorms. On Saturday the 22nd, after getting all our guests into camp, it started to rain. It was nothing but rain, heavyContinue Reading

August off to a great start!

Just a quick blog update. As noted briefly in our last blog, August started out on a fantastic note with some great walleye fishing near weed beds and some fish already transitioned to deeper water structure. The week of August 8-15th, saw the return of summer with lot’s of clear skies, plenty of HEAT andContinue Reading

Opening week one of ups and downs

Well week one is in the books and what a week it turned out to be. The fishing was excellent, with the exception of Tuesday (post cold front) which slowed the bite down a bit from the outstanding fishing (and weather) we experienced on Saturday for the opener. So what happened between Saturday and Tuesday?Continue Reading

Boat-in camp

After two years of flying in for MY Canadian fishing trip (haha), I returned to a boat-in camp for this year’s trip. Trust me when I say that there was NO ONE happier than me to see Wabaskang Lake completely ice free when I arrived here last Wednesday, May 6th. As usual, there were someContinue Reading

Countdown to opening day continues

Well here we are just 12 short days to the 2015 season opener! The weather in NW Ontario has been quite cooperative (for a change), with many lakes in the area either ice free or very near ice free. Music to our ears after the adventures of the past couple of seasons. I will hopefullyContinue Reading

Pre-Christmas Activities

Christmas time is always such a busy time of the year with all the shopping, wrapping, holiday parties, kids’ Christmas plays, concerts etc. Plenty to keep you busy for sure! Sara just had her 5th grade Christmas concert on Friday and wrapped up a volleyball tournament over the weekend. Allison earlier in the week hadContinue Reading

Peffley's Wilderness Camp is a family owned and operated camp. Dave has been fishing Wabaskang Lake for over 25 years and was previously a guest of this camp for 12 years prior to purchasing the camp in 2005. I am a proud supporter of our military and offer a nice discount during the month of July to our guests who have also served. I have three daughters ranging in ages from 16-21 who spend much of their summer with us in camp and have totally embraced the wilderness experience we offer. They have for years referred to it as the "best summer experience ever".

While rarely necessary on our lake, because I do have a very good working knowledge on how and where to fish on Wabaskang Lake and our portage waters, I will guide groups if asked to. Otherwise, I am always happy to share information with our guests and provide them well marked lake maps so they can start catching fish their first day in camp.

I pride myself on running a very clean and well managed camp with your satisfaction our top priority. Many guests who have fished from this camp for over 20 years, and several more that have fished here for over 30 years and even some over 40 years.
