Road Trippin to the show!

Hi All, Just a quick blog this time from the road. I am currently in Stillwater, MN staying with a good friend dating back to my public accounting days and trying to get a few administrative details handled while waiting for the start of the Minneapolis All-Canada show this Friday (2/18). This trip has alreadyContinue Reading

Restricted Fire Zone

For those guests who will be staying with us from July 16 and later, you should be aware that as of July 16 our area was designated by the MNR as part of a restricted fire zone. This means that no open fires are permissable for any reason. There are currently 92 active fires inContinue Reading

Show season about to start

Hi All, Well since mother nature can’t seem to provide enough cold temperatures to make any ice around here, I guess we might just as well go to work! Looks like another poor winter for ice fishing locally. Although camp is booking up very nicely for the upcoming 2012 season, there are always some spotsContinue Reading

Ice Out Imminent!

Our sources on Wabaskang Lake (notably our friend Tom Williams from Sleepy Dog Cabins), tell us that ice out on Wabaskang is now just a couple of days away. The ice is about half gone now and going fast! For those in the area this means some open water fishing opportunities for delicious lake trout,Continue Reading

There I was…..

back in the wild again, and I felt right at home where I belong. I had that feeling coming over me again, just like it happened so many times before….The spirit of the woods is like an old good friend, makes me feel warm and good inside…. For those not adept at playing name thatContinue Reading

No really, it is Opening Day…

Very mild temperatures (low 70’s), mixed with high humidity sure didn’t make it feel like opening day yesterday however. The walleye sure didn’t mind as cloudy skies, intermittent rain showers and enough wind for a good “walleye chop” on the water made for ideal conditions for opening day and the fish responded accordingly. Excellent fishingContinue Reading

Fourteen down, four to go….bear hunting on deck

As it always does, another season is flying by with us beginning the fifteenth week of our eighteen week operating season. With so much of the season past already, you might think that it’s time to put things on “autopilot” and cruise through the last four weeks. Unfortunately that’s just not the way it worksContinue Reading

Still waiting….on ice out

Well I was hopeful that my next blog entry would be done from camp and with a “first-hand” update on ice conditions on the North end of Wabby. Those hopes were dashed in a five minute phone conversation with Wayne Clark from Clark’s Northern Lights resort. Wayne got a plane in the water and wasContinue Reading

A two week blur….

That’s my best description of the first two weeks of the season. Starting off with the late ice out which dug us into a hole for starters, and compounded by a staff change just one week into the season, there were many times in the first two weeks that we felt so far behind weContinue Reading

Cool, damp and great fishing!

With already record or near record water levels, the last thing we needed was a damp summer, but so far that’s what we have had. Fortunately, the rains have been somewhat scattered with many nice days between, but we just start to make progress on the lake going down and a decent rain pretty muchContinue Reading

Peffley's Wilderness Camp is a family owned and operated camp. Dave has been fishing Wabaskang Lake for over 25 years and was previously a guest of this camp for 12 years prior to purchasing the camp in 2005. I am a proud supporter of our military and offer a nice discount during the month of July to our guests who have also served. I have three daughters ranging in ages from 16-21 who spend much of their summer with us in camp and have totally embraced the wilderness experience we offer. They have for years referred to it as the "best summer experience ever".

While rarely necessary on our lake, because I do have a very good working knowledge on how and where to fish on Wabaskang Lake and our portage waters, I will guide groups if asked to. Otherwise, I am always happy to share information with our guests and provide them well marked lake maps so they can start catching fish their first day in camp.

I pride myself on running a very clean and well managed camp with your satisfaction our top priority. Many guests who have fished from this camp for over 20 years, and several more that have fished here for over 30 years and even some over 40 years.
