As might be expected for the first week of June, the fishing was excellent for the week overall. Lots of fish, a nice mix of big fish with many groups saying they never caught so many 18-22″ walleye here, and fish spread out among many places across the north end of Wabby. I’m sure the fishing is just as good on the south end of the lake…
Big fish for the week goes to Pat Dudding who caught a MONSTER 38″ lake trout that buried the 25 lb scale they had on the boat. Congrats Pat on an awesome fish! The walleye bite remains shallow with little vegetation present. Casting and trolling jigs in 1-10 fow with minnows has certainly been best. The pike have been aggressive as usual. Smallmouth were very close to getting on their beds last week, but a little cold snap seems to have pushed them off. Despite that, we heard tales of many BIG smallies caught during the week, and suspect that there is some lights out smallie fishing ahead for groups this week and next. I’d gladly share pictures if anyone would share them with me…. hint, hint….
Well pictures or not, it’s was a fantastic week on Wabaskang and in camp. Almost every regular group, with a couple of notable absences that were dearly missed, were in camp and a new group that is anxious to come see us again. Week four of the season is underway and early reports are that it’s off to a good start!
