Crossing the border may seem overwhelming at first. There are a few more hurdles to jump through, but once you start the process you will see that it only takes a few minutes to make sure everything is in order to ensure a smooth a transition as possible when you reach the Canadian border. By following the four steps below, you should be in good shape when you arrive into Canada.
- You must have your vaccination a minimum of 14 days prior to arrival. If you are scheduled for an arrival on the 9th, and have yet to obtain your vaccine, your deadline is July 26th. You would also only qualify for the Johnson & Johnson “one and done” vaccine.
- You must upload the ArriveCan app on to your phone and follow the instructions for setting up your account, and submitting the necessary information prior to your arrival.
- You must have a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of your arrival at the border. Allow enough time between when you received the test, and when you plan to arrive at the border in the event you incur any delays at the crossing. Exceeding your 72 hour window may require another test.
- You must have all ID and supporting documents (vaccine passport, negative test results, etc…) with you in print, even though you may have submitted this information on the app.
Along with the steps above, we suggest the following:
Wear a mask when approaching the border, and also when interacting with border agents. Masks will be required if you need to go inside to process any payments. Lastly, as with everything else that has surrounded the circumstances of the Covid pandemic these last 16 months, rumors and false information will start to flow through social media regarding this border re-opening. One such rumor escalated yesterday regarding being denied entrance back in to the states once your week at Peffley’s is complete…
I called the U.S. Customs office at the International Falls, MN location and confirmed with a border patrol officer that “Any American citizen, who currently resides in the United States, and has their proper identification, will NOT be denied entrance back into the US once their trip to Canada is complete.”
Once again, if you start to hear suspicious information, please don’t hesitate to give us a call, or even call the customs office where you plan to cross and ask questions.
